Good to know.
Re: Preflight keeps saying "Unable to save the PDF File after post processing"
Re: Preflight keeps saying "Unable to save the PDF File after post processing"
Mark, I am not so sure I follow....?
I usually have control of the file so it gets done in Indesign and therefore no problems at conversion to press-ready.
The person who created the file is quite stubborn, did not follow my recommendations for the correct, more compatible cross-platform font, and doesn't really understand output to print. She used a high street print shop to print her last range of booklets, so assumes it's very easy to do. She is using a more basic desktop publishing software - Pages in Mac - which can't even create a proper index, and for some reason when converted to pdf created a weekend's headache.
I went through, together with another designer, every possible combination to try and sort the problem (save as, save as other, preflight variations, etc). At one point, we reduced the file down to 9.5 MB from 33MB, and when doing a preflight analysis (NOT conversion) it showed no errors. Then the moment I go for preflight STANDARDS the same error message appears when trying to save.
I am not that proficient in the finer points of Acrobat, so probably missed something, but three people looked at this file and none could fix it.So the heavy handed approach somehow did the trick and I'm just happy it works.
In hindsight I should have insisted on the copy being sent in MS word and I should have just put in the time to reformat it in InDesign.
another headache gone...
Re: automatically add bleed
Now that is the kind of plug-in I would love to see.
Re: Preflight keeps saying "Unable to save the PDF File after post processing"
I see. Kind of seems analogous to the situation in the 90's and 2000's where scores of marketing directors would arrive with Word files, complete with embedded graphics, at their local offset printers and ask for high quality white papers for internal distribution.
And why shouldn't it work, they thought....
First of all I am glad your problem has been solved by whichever means within Acrobat. It possesses, as I mentioned, many ways "to get there", and although a workflow involving another software package, even if from Adobe, may work, it is a band-aid, ie, workaround that ignores the source of errors, and as such not really a "solution," but happily a way to move forward. But in a production workflow we do what's necessary to get the product manufactured and out the door.
We looked at Apple's PDF's a lot at the time they popped up in their Print dialog, and at that time, the Quarz PDF was deemed satisfactory for file exchange, archival, and capture, but wholly lacking within a print production environment. With the proliferation of newer printing technologies, some of those original concerns were mitigated, although I can't imagine that type of PDF has improved much over the years seen within the restrictions and requirements of prepress workflow. The stubborn person should be made to know that her workflow causes more problems than it solves, maybe next time around should deliver well-formed files from a better source.
Print dialog box changed, no longer offers certain options
One of my users suddenly noticed that two of her machines' print dialog boxes have changed when trying to print out of Acrobat. She's used to seeing this screen when she goes to print:
However now she sees this screen instead, and it's missing the Page Size & Handling options.
Using Acrobat X Standard, tried reinstalling but it didn't fix the problem. Any ideas?
Re: Print dialog box changed, no longer offers certain options
Which dot version of Acrobat X Standard is loaded? Update to the latest version which I believe is 10.1.10 now.
Re: no pdf printer adobe pdf pack. and will not let me install one
DId you follow SPECIFIC instructions for the pdf pack printer? Instructions for Acrobat printer are no use to you.
Re: Print dialog box changed, no longer offers certain options
That was it, the version I was using was 10.0 Thanks!
Re: automatically add bleed
Good one Luke. I will l revisit Pitstop too. Thanks guys
Printing actual size on custom size paper on OSX 10.9
Hi,
I just updated my computer to OSX Maverick and I have problem when printing actual size document on a custom page size in Acrobat X.
I want to print a 5.5" x 8.5" document on a 12" x 24" paper sheet size. I want my document to be centred in the paper at is actual size. When I select the paper size in the Page Setup... and the "Actual size" option, I have the right preview but once it is printed, the document is Fit to page.
I have updated my printer driver and I am able to print my document correctly if I open it in Preview.
I also have the same problem when printing in Acrobat on other printers.
Can anyone help me resolve this issue?
Thanks in advance.

BRING JDF BACK PLEASE!
How to eliminate noise/static that appears around imported images in a PDF of a Vectorworks file?
I am a Vectorworks user. When I PDF a file that has imported images, static/grain/noise appears surrounding the imported image.
Re: Acrobat Pro XI Mac won't print a .pdf file, but Apple Preview will print correctly
I have been having a similar problem for years, and it continues now even with the latest version of Acrobat.
I am running Acrobat XI Pro on Windows 7 using VMWare, and the hardware is an iMac running OSX 10.9.3. The printer is a Brother MFC-9970CDW. All software and O/S's have been updated.
I can print all PDF files with Preview on the iMac, but many documents won't print on Acrobat XI Pro under Windows 7. I don't run Acrobat on the Mac -- just Adobe Reader. Acrobat XI Pro completes the print to the printer on VMWare (i.e., spools it to the Mac printer), but it never prints. I get an error message on the Mac printer driver saying "Stopped - Unable to convert postscript file". The same document will print with no problem on Adobe Reader under Mac OSX and on Preview.
If you send me a link, I'm happy to send you a file which will fail every time on Acrobat XI Pro on Windows and print every time on Preview and Adobe Reader.
Re: Acrobat Pro XI v.11.0.06 - PDF created by Microstation Print Organizer - Windows 7 - Printing shaded squares on top of shaded building and not displayed on screen, only displays on paper when printing
I'm seeing this same problem happen on multiple platforms here in the office. Every time this happens, the screen view does not show these shapes. I have been seeing the same problem except linework will be missing in one of these square shapes as well. Please give feedback if anyone knows what causes this problem. One thing to note - these squares are the size and placement of a selection box within acrobat. For example, if i use the selection tool and click near where the problem printed out, the shaded area that gets selected is in the exact same spot and is the exact size.@
PDFs prints are printing the color text as black, but artwork as color - on my printer they're printing correctly. Any ideas?
I'm creating PDF forms for a client in InDesign CC using the same CMYK dark blue for the headline text as what's in the logo. When the client prints the forms all the color text prints as black, but the logo prints in color. When I print tests from my printer everything prints correctly. I have a strong suspicion it's due to their printer settings, but I want to eliminate any chance it could be a file prep issue on my end before I make that suggestion (I don't want to sound like I'm making up excuses). Any suggestions?
Re: PDFs prints are printing the color text as black, but artwork as color - on my printer they're printing correctly. Any ideas?
I just looked at two pdf's exported from ID.
There is an option in AA's print dialog to Print color as black.
Interestingly, in document one I have a color raster image, vector shapes with color and text in color, all cmyk. Choosing Print color as black previews the entire document in black, but another document has vector logo with Spot Colors....
The spot colors retain their color.
Acrobat reader will not print what is showing on the screen
I created a business card in a graphic design program, exported it as a PDF file. When I open the pdf file in acrobat, it will display correctly on the screen, but will not print correctly.
When I click on the print icon, a box opens and shows a small preview of what is supposed to print. What shows in the small preview box is correct, but when it prints, it drops off text.
When I go back to the program that created the card, it will print correctly from that program. When I open the pdf file in Photoshop, it will print correctly in Photoshop. It just drops off text in Acrobat Pro or Acrobat Reader when printing.
Acrobat XI Pro prints my Text Comments when I only tell it to print the document
I am trying to print my XI Pro Document without the Text Comments. In prior versions, I only had to print the "Document," but now, with that selected, it no longer removes my Text Comments. How do I print a clean document without any annotations?
Re: Acrobat XI Pro prints my Text Comments when I only tell it to print the document
I'm seeing the same thing. I would say it's a bug. You can report it here:

Re: How to print embedded links
You mean include the actual linked documents in the PDF file automatically? No, that's not possible.
