Very simple, totally uninstall Reader!
There is really no good reason to have both Reader and Acrobat installed on the same system since Acrobat does everything Reader does and much more.
Furthermore, mixing two totally separate releases is really looking for trouble. Never mix releases of Reader and Acrobat even assuming you have some compelling reason to have both installed.
Preferred way of fixing your system and assuring that the configuration isn't messed up by having the two incompatible concurrently installed products:
(1) Totally uninstall Adobe Reader.
(2) Totally uninstall Acrobat.
(3) Reboot
(4) Reinstall Acrobat X Standard and apply updates to latest version.
