If the file prints without a problem to the same printer via USB, then the problem resides in the transport layer between the spooler and the device itself. Acrobat has no interaction whatsoever with that transport layer. What may be at play here is that the spooled content from Acrobat (or Reader) is greater in magnitude than you might get from “text or word documents” and that some type of timeout in the communication protocol is causing the failure.
I would suggest you contact the printer manufacturer to see if they have an updated driver or are aware of this type of issue. Make sure you advise them of the fact that the file prints fine via USB!
