I am using Adobe Acrobat Professional 10.1.9, however this idea may work for several different Adobe products.
I know that this question was asked a couple of years ago, in several different Adobe forums; however, I was not satisfied with the approaches or the answers. May I tell you what has worked for me?
I have a document, a User's Guide that I want to print as a booklet on 8-1/2" paper, on both sides of the paper. After I open the print command, without messing with Adobe's print settings, I immediately go to my printer's properties and make the desired settings that I think I want there (and not in Adobe's print settings). Even then, it took a couple of tries for me to find the settings I wanted.
I think this approach should work, regardless of the printer manufacturer. In my case, I am using a Brother HL-4040CDN laserjet with built-in duplex printing. I hope you can find something useful in this posting!
Regards.
