You should refer to the license for the specific font. There is no general rule for fonts. A font could, like software, have weird and exotic license terms like "not to be used on a Tuesday", though in practice that is unlikely.
The main area where font licenses get in the way is the question of whether the font can be embedded in a PDF. If it cannot, your printer may need to buy a copy of the font (licenses do not in general allow sharing a font with a printer, though many printers will tell you otherwise).
