Thank you for your response but I don't understand it at all. Is Preflight Check included with my Adobe subscription or is it some kind of third party service?

Hello Eric,

Sorry for the trouble, try changing the settings from the  Print dialog box, Click on Advanced, under Color Management, make changes, and see if this brings any difference.

Also, refer to the following Adobe article for more Advanced PDF print settings Advanced PDF print settings, Adobe Acrobat

Also, check for any pending updates of Adobe Reader installed from help>check for updates, reboot the machine after installing the updates.

Is the printing issue is specific to one PDF file or is it with all the PDF files? What is the dot version of Adobe Reader installed, to identify refer to Identify the product and its version for Acrobat and Reader DC

Let us know how it goes and share your findings.

Regards,

Anand Sri.

"Preflight" is part of the "Print Production" tools, which are part of Adobe Acrobat Pro. So, if you can apply Bates numbers (which is also an Acrobat Pro feature), you have access to Preflight. The best way to find the tool is to bring up the tool search function in Acrobat: You can type "preflight" either into the search field at the top of the right hand pane, or at the top of the "Tools" page:

First, thank you for responding. I found preflight but I don't see an option to search for content based on unique properties nor do I see an option regarding layer properties. I click on preflight but there is no option for "preflight check." Could you give me a bit more information?

And, really, thank you so much for your advice. I appreciate it!

If you've never worked with the Preflight tool, this gets a bit complicated.

When you open Preflight, you will see three different categories: Profiles, checks and fixups:

2018-04-09_15-54-03.png

For what you want to do, we need one new "Check", and one new "Fixup". So, first select the "Check" category (that's the magnifying glass in the middle), and then use the menu under "Options" to select "Create Check".

Before we create the check, let's take a step back to what Stephen said: You want to search for text in e.g. a certain font that is only used for your Bates numbers, so that you can then move the text that is set in that font to a dedicated layer. This means that you first have to select what font you want to use (this should be a font that does not appear anywhere else in your documents). I selected "Baskerville" for my example. We now need to create a new "Check" that identifies all "Baskerville" text.

The first thing we do with your new check, is to give it a meaningful name. I named mine "Font is Baskerville". Here is how I set it up:

2018-04-09_16-02-34.png

As you can see, we need a "Group" and a certain "Property" to add an item. I've highlighted the group/property information for the three steps. You first select e.g. "Page Description" in the list of groups, and that then filters what gets shown in the property list. So, we are looking for:

- objects that are text

- with a font that matches "Baskerville"

- with a font size of about 8pt (+/- 0.1pt)

You can use the search field at the top to e.g. find the "Base font name" property without having to scroll thorough the whole list.

When you are done, click on the "OK" button to save this check.

Now we create a new fixup. Click on the Wrench button, and then select to create a new Fixup under the Options menu. Give it a good name (e.g. Move "Baskerville" text to "Bates" layer).

Once the fixup is created, you can use it. In the following screenshot, I am filtering all Fixups by searching for only those that contain "bask":

Once located, select the fixup and then click on the "Fix" button at the bottom of the dialog. This will create the new layer and will then allow you to go into the layer configuration as demonstrated by Stephen and configure it to not print.

Will not form the adobe printer button. It will print directly from document folder print button. After windows 10 update my font was ugly so I changed it to Ariel via some cut and paste procedure within notepad. I also recently had to change file extension setting in order for a download to work. Those are the only things that I changed, as far as I know. I un-installed ADOBE and re-installed it. That did not help.

Any ideas

Apologies, I did not have time for a step by step yesterday. It looks like Karl Heinz Kremer has done a great job in explaining my original post. Please let the forum know if there are any further questions or problems etc.

Prior to getting the new computer I was able to print in the architectural or "ARCH" sizes. Now with the new computer I can only print in the "ANSI" sizes and these do not offer the 24x36 and 36x48 sizes that I require to print. What is the fix for this? I have tried custom inputting the size for the drawings but they're still not exactly to scale and I NEED them to be exact or plan reviewers will not approve our drawings otherwise

I’m quite confused. Acrobat does not have an “opinion” on sizes except for the maximum size allowed for an Acrobat page size — which I even don’t know by hearth.

A PDF file is like an electronic paper. You can create a PDF in any size and you can print that any size to a printer having physical paper of any size.

This said:

  • What is your OS?
  • What is your CAD system?
  • What is your program you’re using for creating the PDF or how are you creating the PDF file?
  • What Acrobat are you using to physically print your PDF file?

I’m sure it’s a kind of configuration of your initial CAD program and you need to enter in the options/properties/definitions area the correct standard to get the correct paper sizes.

Print as image is a work around, not a permanent solution. The trick here is that Acrobat makes the ripping and sends a picture to the printer. For you, that means that your printer is not correctly interpreting the Postscript code that Adobe sends to the printer.

This may have essentially 2 causes, both are outside of the range of Adobe:

  1. the printer driver interferes with the Postscript code generated by Acrobat. Tis is a very dumb action of the driver programers, as the Postscript code generated is highly optimized and very conform to the Postscript defenitions. Anny messing-up may make the whole code unworking.
  2. The printer himselves does not understand the Postscript code generated by Acrobat. That’s often due to a third party Postscript implementation.

In very rare cases, the code generated by Adobe is faulty. But my experience shows point 1 or 2 as being the culprit in most of the cases.

Again, I can't thank you enough for your assistance. I did all of the steps you told me to do without a problem. However, I can't find the "layer properties" pop up box Stephen showed in his initial response to my question. How do I get there?

Thanks!!!

Go to the "Layers" navigation pane on the left side (e.g. via View>Show/Hide>Navigation Panes>Layers), then right-click on the layer you want to modify and select "Properties" from the menu:
